The National Games Shooting Range at Vattiyoorkavu in Thiruvananthapuram has completed a comprehensive infrastructure modernisation, reinforcing its status as one of southern India's premier precision marksmanship complexes.
Established originally for the 35th National Games, the sprawling multi-tier facility has now been retrofitted with next-generation Swiss SIUS Ascor electronic target scoring systems across its 10m indoor, 25m pistol, and 50m rifle ranges.
The upgrade introduces high-precision acoustic sensor target boxes that register shot coordinates within fractions of a millimeter, displaying real-time shot trajectories, group diameters, and decimal values on shooters' individual high-contrast monitors.
The modernisation project, executed jointly by the Kerala State Sports Council and the Kerala State Rifle Association, provides state athletes with identical competition conditions to those found at ISSF World Cups and the Olympic Games.
The facility will host state trials, South Zone Championships, and national training camps, ensuring Kerala shooters no longer need to travel outside the state for Olympic-grade electronic target practice.
"The Vattiyoorkavu complex is one of the proudest legacies of the National Games in Kerala. Upgrading to Swiss SIUS Ascor targets ensures our shooters train on identical tech used at Olympic finals."
